Acupuncture and the menopause
The menopause is not a ‘disease’ and it needs medical intervention only if symptoms are uncomfortable and distressing.
Acupuncture can be effective in treating all symptoms of the menopause. With the changing hormonal levels the balance of Yin and Yang can be disrupted. The Chinese categorise menopausal problems in to Hot and Cold symptoms.

The
hot symptoms result from a deficiency of Yin - the cool, feminine
energy. These symptoms include: hot flushes, red face, night sweats and
osteoporosis.
Whereas the cold symptoms result from a deficiency
of Yang. These symptoms include: sensitivity to cold, oedema, weight
gain and urinary complaints.
Often women will have a combination of both hot and cold symptoms. All combinations can be treated effectively with acupuncture treatment.
